A Message to the LVD Community and Workforce from Tribal Leadership

Dear Tribal Members and Tribal Personnel,

The Lac Vieux Desert Band of Lake Superior Chippewa Indians stands firm with our sister sovereigns in the protection of tribal sovereignty and the pursuit of fair and equitable intergovernmental relations.  As we enter a new era of Government to Government relationships with the United States, the Tribe will take care to act in a conscientious and deliberate manner basing actions and decisions on facts and being guided by our Seven Grandfather Teachings.

Tribal Leadership is aware that many Tribal Members as well as members of the Tribal workforce are concerned with the impacts of newly enacted policies from the White House.  Please be advised that we are diligently monitoring current events and rest assured that we will take every measure available to protect Tribal resources, people, operations, businesses, and the community.  As we work to assess the effect of executive orders and directives of the U.S. President, know that we will explore all avenues necessary to protect Tribal sovereignty and act when and where it is needed most.  We encourage you all to be careful, to educate yourself to the facts, and to be mindful of your actions and reactions.  As Tribal Leaders we will uphold our obligation to the Tribe and our community by making informed decisions, leading with confidence, and keeping the community informed as more details are made known.
